Derekegyház

The town is located 12 km southeast of Szentes next to the Kórógy Brook. In 1722, Count Sándor Károlyi established a large manorial center with a palace, an 60 ha landscape garden and agricultural buildings. The appearance of the town today developed from the village on the Károlyi estate, that is to say in 1874 the concept of the village of Derekegyház was established with the unification of the scattered farmsteads. The palace and the former Károlyi estate were purchased in 1913 by the indus¬trialist Manfréd Weiss, whose heirs established modern large-scale farming and vegetable production with irrigation in the village. After World War II a state farm and cooperative were created from the estate.

Beautiful hiking areas may be found within the diverse lowland landscape in the local forests, with rest areas, natural springs and abundant wildlife. The area is quite renowned in hunting circles, since the abundant and diverse wildlife provide for great adventure, and not only for hunters. You can also choose to take a carriage or horse ride along the romantic forest paths. In addition to experiencing the peaceful natural environment, hikers can find the Ördöngös bell tower, and can rest at a genuine Family-run village inn.
