This town is located between Nagymágocs and Gádoros, next to Mágocs Brook, on the border of Csongrád and Békés counties.

Until the middle of the 20th century it was a populated estate administered by Nagymágocs in the Trans-Tisza district. Its lords had been the families of the counts Károlyi and Berchtold. The formerly enormous Mágocs estate was divided amongst Count Alajos Károlyi’s (1825-1889) heirs after his death.
The Árpádhalom estate along with other territories (totaling about 6,000 ha) went to Countess Ferdinanda Károlyi, who in 1893 married Count Leopold von Berchtold, later to become foreign minister. Therefore, the now Countess von Berchtold took over the management of the estate in the middle of the 1890s, making Árpádhalom its center. It was most likely during 1897-98 that she had an attractive palace built as a residence in the middle of an approximately 9 hectares. The Neo-classic
and Eclectic style building, which has survived the wars with hardly a scratch, is now a cultural center, school and library.

Near the palace you can see the half-timbered (which is rare in this area) Roman Catholic Chapel built in 1920-21. The Countess von Berchtold also had this built.
